Camouflaging Darkness to Light

For us brunettes gone blonde, it’s not always easy timing the next salon appointment with “new growth.” Most of know us it takes about three weeks for dark roots to break scalp ground. And yet, us busy girls try to stretch those visits too far apart? So, what’s a bottled-blonde to do between touch-ups?

N-A-T-U-R-I-A.

For just $21, this hair-coloring product is a blonde’s best lifesaver. Last month, as the Christmas holiday crept upon our life, there was no time to schedule time with Jerry (our colorist). So, we had bought Natural for one of those rainy days when a salon appointment is out of the question. And Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo, filled in our darkness with light in three easy steps:

· Spritz 6-10 inches away from dark roots,

· Massage into the head Let dry for 10-15 minutes

· Gently brush tresses, blend into other hair color and voila

Sudsy Hand Candy

When panache is an important aspect of your life, it’s only inevitable that hand washing would be an indulgent experience. That’s why Daub and Bauble fits the hygiene order. Hands can almost feel its moisturizing ingredients: a blend of vitamin E, aloe vera and vegetable glycerin.

Fragrances are potent but not too overbearing. Scents are bold yet not too ostentatious to alienate the wearer. Tried the Sirocco, dubbed the Italian’s popular table fruit, it smells of sweet oranges spiked with cloves balanced to a subtle perfection. But that’s not all.

The soft Hand Soap, $9 comes in three decorative designs. They are actually limited editions presented in an eco-friendly bottle. It’s the type of hand candy that goes well beyond washing and moisturizing, trancending into something intoxicatingly delicious.

Wash it Without Water

Flat-ironed hair achieves a rapid refreshing with Ojon Rub-out Dry Cleanser. Our hair is slightly wavy so preserving thermal treatment helps minimize that amount of heat and stress applied to our tresses. So finding this easy way to clean and refresh our hair saves so much time. Now, it’s also ideal for a business trip, workout or just between washings. And, it even works on any hair types as it:

Clears impurities

Removes toxins

Eliminates excess oil

Erases product build-up

While some may think that $24 is a bit much, considering the convenience and that only takes a minute amount of Ojon Rub-out Dry Cleanser, it’s well worth the price.

Skin Defense Without a Knife

There’s no need to opt for Botox, Fraxel or Affirm. There’s ample time to defer the injections, laser treatments and other nifty nip and tuck procedures. Age Defence is to the rescue. Synonymous with its brand name, “nude skin care,” this is the moisturizer of all moisturizers.

How it works?
It not only hydrates the skin but also detoxifies, all the while acting as the skin’s best defense. Age Defence works in-sync with the body’s biology. During the day, antioxidants (green tea, ginger turmeric) prevent free radicals from aging or oxidative stress. At night, the emollient’s probiotic nutrients stimulate CoQ10 production for the immune system and promote cell renewal for rejuvenation.

Is it natural?
With more than a dozen pure herbs and extracts, finally there’s a moisturizer that is abundant in organic ingredients and free of chemicals. For instance, Age Defence does not contain any sulfate, of parabens, or phthalates.

What to expect?

For $100, there’s no need to inject, cut are insert. Simply expect to squash aging and preserve a youthful appearance.

Where to buy it?
Nudeskincare.com or Barneys New York.

Handi-Self-Care

If your favorite nail spa is booked and your nails are a mess, ten minutes is all it takes for a quick, pre-party nail fix.

Wash hands and remove old nail polish.

File nails using an emery board with fine grains.

Soak fingertips for five minutes in sudsy water.

Push back cuticles.

Buff a gentle sweeping pattern to smooth out rough ridges and then wipe with a cotton swab saturated in nail polish remover.

Polish with a basecoat, let dry for three minutes. Repeat with two coats of nail lacquer.

Repair any smudges with a orangewood stick dipped in nail polish remover.

Our picks for this season’s hottest nail colors:
Lippmann Collection Nail Color, Rehab, $15
OPI Nail Lacquer, Russian Navy, $7.50
Zoya Nail Polish, Indigo, $8

Why You'll Love Them: Deep blues, like vampy reds, look classic on nails, but their sophisticated, earthy character softens them, making navy, we think, almost as wearable as baby pink or beige. Take a walk on the dark side, which shade will you choose?

The Zinc firming complex penetrates deep within your skin to restore that elasticity that skin loses as it ages. But what’s so fantastic about this little miracle in a jar? It doesn’t just make your skin look firmer, it also diminishes fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging that the years cruelly place upon your face. Count Me In

It's 12:59AM and I can't sleep so I thought I'd rattle off a quickie. Get your mind out of the gutter. What's on my mind? Weight. After spending a week beachside in Mexico with la familia, I hoped and prayed that no one would ask me when I was due. Yes, I had a baby --um, a year ago; and hello, what the hell is wrong with me, if I still have a good 40+ pounds to lose? OK, I'm fat. There, I said it. O-U-T-L-O-U-D! Tomorrow I'm going to start working out. No excuses- even if I only get 10 minutes a day- at least it's a start. Thank you to Shannon over at A Girl's Gotta Spa, who inspired me when she posted about the Body Wrap.

In the Brush

Brushes, combs and other styling utensils contribute their share of split-ends. Depending on the texture of your hair, different brushes work with certain hair types. Hybrid bristles brushes work smart on normal or even thick short hair. Thick to coarse hair calls for a nylon bristle brush. Because they apply excessive stress to the hair, wooden and metal combs are a no-no. As for a brush for all discerning hair types, the Mason Pearson, Popular Mixture, $135 keeps those split ends at bay. Budget hairistas can enjoy the same benfits, sans the price with Sonia Kaushka's, Bristle Hair Brush, $14.99. I recently purchased two, one for each of my girls "princess" brushes (story to follow) and dare I say, these are a very, very close second. If you are thinking about getting one, hurry, the website is already sold out, but your local Target store may still have one or two lingering.

Strange Obsession

Naturally, mango, basil, jasmine and a botanical musk are a unique obsession. For me, it was an inevitable addiction. As a perfume oil aficionado and an adorer of mild, docile fragrances, Tropical Vial, $185 by Strange Invisible Perfume was an obvious extension of my reserved but eccentric personality. But for some, it’s a summer scent. My husband calls the eau de parfum exotic and has an unusual fixation with it. I, often catch him smelling my clothes, rummaging through my medicine cabinet looking for the vial or gently stroking my neck with his nose for a whiff, of his strange obsession.

A fresh, crisp beachy fragrance that makes us want to pick up a good book, kick back and relax. And at three bucks for two ounces who can't afford to go on this vacation?
Head over to Mad City Sue. Priced at $4 a bar, you can afford to try a few. Go for the Rosemary Mint cold-pressed soap, it's TDF. Ruby Tuesday

German brand, Just Good For You, swirls extremely rare and one of the most valuable precious gemstones in nature, the ruby, into pure luxury for your body and soul. The new skin care line, Pearls-Rubies-Roses is formulated with actual freshwater pearls, rubies, jasper, jojoba, almond oil and the alluring fragrance of freshly cut wild roses and rosewood.

Since ancient times rubies have been known as one of the most beautiful and precious stones. To dream of rubies is to dream of success in business, money, and love. The sparkle and luminescence of rubies is said to be created by an inextinguishable fire in the heart of the stone.

We heart: Ruby Body Peeling, $89. Despite the ominous name, we couldn't wait to try this decadent body polish. Formulated to get your skin silky smooth and ready to bare all, this tantalizing scrub delivered a luxurious silky-smooth skin sensation. Keeping an open mind while focusing on sloughing away negative thought patterns and sadness, we emerged from the shower surprisingly light-hearted with a smile on our face. Sudzz FX

I'm usually wash-and-wear, but an impromptu get together last night with a bunch of girlfriends had me reaching for the hairspray. Instead of my standard, Sebastian Shaper, I grabbed a bottle of the new LockUp, $17 by Suddz FX. This non-aerosol, tropical coconut scented hair spray is light on resins, but surprisingly strong on hold. This hairspray added soft definition, controlled my fly-aways and added subtle shine and control, all without the stiffness and stickiness commonly associated with other hair sprays. It's perfect for the big hair trend for fall; texture. According to Fashion Tribes, sleek, chic and low-maintenance are the buzz surrounding the season’s hottest locks. Just aim and spray.

Bling It On

If you’re the kind of girl that likes to have something that no one else has, read on. Originally titled, Bling It On, our recent post morphed into All That Sparkles after glitter twinkled in abundance.

The original theme, *bling* was revived after coming across a bedazzling beauty which deserves to be flaunted in it own right. Covered in your choice of -nineteen- swarowski colored crystals from aquamarine to tanzinite (our fav: rose), the Whish Crystal Body Brush, Full $180 or Demi, $105 is handmade in England especially for a woman’s shaving needs. This sparkling gem transforms Whish, Shave Crave, $32 into a rich, lush cream while gently exfoliating your skin. (I've getting -lots- of raves for the pomegranate). The result is a miraculously close and perefect shave. Bling it on, this one-of-a-kind accessory is sure to brighten up any bathroom.

The overflowing bling at Make Up For Ever is justification to let your creativity go w-i-l-d! Dazzle your face and body with sparkles, mulitcolored star confetti and our favorite, tiny jewels. Strauss, $25 are glue-on multi-colored crystals that add an abundance of drama and sparkle to any look.

Although the glue is not included (complete PIA), try Urban Apothecary's, Stuck Up Adhesive, $14. It's also great on sluggish straps and plunging necklines, Stuck Up works wonders with all that sparkles, glitters and glows. Or opt for their ranbowilicious line of glitter, Glitterazzi. Professional make-up artists use them and abuse them during fashion shows. For a sparkling veil over the face, body and hair, the $10 (and currently buy-one-get-one-free) shaker-top pots pack plenty of perfectly sized, fine sparklers in a mind boggling array of 24 marvelous, colorful shades. Trend: Supernatural

Bare faced beauty is always a hit on the runways and this season is no different. Sephora reports, beauty has a supernatural flair this season. The look in fact, is so widespread, that companies such as Urban Apothecary incorporated the trend permanently into their array of mineral makeup products, aptly named Supernatural years ago. The result: a line-up of unshakable best sellers. The guise: neutral shades to accent facial structure, brows are penciled, cheeks are dramatized and lids are monotone.

Drink Your Way to Perfect Skin

In today's health and wellness conscious world, beverages and skin care are being increasingly linked. A new trend in upscale markets, Sephora, the perfumery chain, owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton will unveil a new, in-store concept featuring nutritional supplements and drinks. Sephora in France plans to offer up a consulting nutritionist who will create beauty regimens combining nutritional supplements and drinks as well as skin care for a total health program. If it works, the good-for-you concept could roll into America, too. The Sephora department consists of a healthy beauty bar stocking 10 brands of nutritional supplements and drinks. The lineup includes Fushi, Dr. Perricone and Dr. Murad, plus the house brand called 24H Slimming Program.

Leading the pack is a line of 'drink your way to perfect skin' beverages from Borba. At the core of the eponymous line are a half-dozen zero-calorie waters, rendered murky with pulverized vitamins, extracts and other ingredients designed to improve your complexion. When Borba launched last spring, Fred Segal Beauty sold more than 3,000 bottles in two weeks. Sephora stores often run out of the sweets, Jelli and Gummi Boosters. Expensive? 14 8-ounce bottles cost $35; a bag of 275 jellybeans is $25. Yes, but Borba is convinced that their clientel doesn't have a problem spending on new technologies and premium products, as long they see that it's effective.

They might be onto something... Not far behind, Coca-Cola and L'Oreal are working on a beauty elixir called Lumae to improve the skin. Whole Foods has been merchandising beauty and supplements side by side for many years. Another new concept is Danone's Essensis, vitamin-rich yogurt positioned as an oral beauty supplement. Mmm, now if only I could get my Botox in my morning latte. Starbucks are you listening? Make mine a Grande, proto!

Fall Makeup Trends

Crowns abound, while highly defined and lined eyes clearly are center stage as we head into fall.
Christian Dior beauties, Flavia De Oliveira and Anna Chyzh winked the catwalk with retro lined lids, dramatically contrasting pale skin with matte, metallic luminoisty.

The graceful, Valerya Melnik sasayed in Elie Saab with ultra matte nude lips and skin paired with glam kohl-colored liner and unmbigious grey shadow.

Kinga Rajzak for Christian Dior -captured the season's biggest trends in eyes of etherieal blue, a violet flush and healthy, stained lips. Style mavens take note, we are going to be seeing lots of violet blush.

I'm forecasting vast violet flush for Fall. When paired with rose stained lips and smokey eyes, this is a fresh take on color that everyone can enjoy. Dont agree with me? Annieytown of Blogdorf Goodman, presented the beauty trends from Christian Dior's Fall 2007 Couture Collection and concurs. Keep an eye on how these makeup trends continue to translate from runway to reality.

MAC in 3D

Introducing the new MAC in 3D collection. It's already online and scheduled to hit MAC counters today. Most stores have the entire range displayed already and some (like mine) are even sold out of a few shades (Wondershine, Synched Up, Optical, Apex, Energy)- bummer!

Lip gloss fans everywhere will enter a new dimension in lip gloss. The new smoothing cellophane 3D Glass, $14 lipgloss has immediate super shiny, long lasting finish. The gloss has a comfortable lightweight balmy feel, a sort of gel infused with aloe and vitamins A,C & E which helps soothe and moisturize lips. A unique combination of Xirona pearls and extreme glass shine gives lips a three dimensional look. The images do not capture how glossy and iridescent these glosses are- brilliant!

  • IN 3D: Sheer peachy pink with blue pearl
  • Optical: Warm caramel brown with pink pearl

Lipglass Pencil, $13.50 is a sheer lip pencil specially formulated to be used with M·A·C lipgloss and lipstick for a superior glossy effect to the lips. This innovative texture was developed using specially formulated filming polymers for adherence, superior wearability and luminosity. I have to admit, this is one of the first lip pencils that did not fizzle away after an hour. The sheer formula does not interfere with the look, texture or application of lipgloss, it just enhances the look. If you are looking for a naturally defined lip, this pencil offers luminous transparency and a hint of pigment for a super glossy, non-feathering effect in a myrid of shades.

  • Red Stroke: Sheer cherry red

Caffeine Fix

If you are in need of a caffeine pick-me-up, skip the coffee shop and give your body a rush with Body Coffee. Serving up decadently scented, skin-smoothing products Stephka Profitt, the brains behind the brand, uses actual coffee in every one of her creations; from the energizing Body Oil, $22 to the hydrating Body Balm, $12. My personal favorite is the invigorating Body Polish, $35, in which coffee granules are blended with peppermint, spearmint, rosemary and orange oils into a delicious body scrub. Especially good as a wake-up call for drowsy mornings, this decadent blend provides an invigorating massage while you breathe in the intoxicating scent.

Some experts contend that the coffee bean has a litany of benefits – including improved circulation and cell turnover. Did you realize coffee is also known as a free radical scavenger, a gentle exfolliant, an effective astringent and a UVA/UVB protector as well as a great cleanser? Me either! I can tell you, your skin will glow with renewed radiance. Forget about the tall, double shot, no-foam lattes and get your caffeine fix with Body Coffee.

Get Cheeky

If matte powder blushes feel heavy or look too made-up for summertime, opt for a gel or creme blush. The deeper the pigment, the less you'll have to use. Just blend a tiny bit on the apples of your cheeks with fingertips.

My Favorites:
Stila, Color Push Ups, $24. The oil-free, sheer gel formula is great for summer and gives cheeks a barely-there flush.

100% Pure, Fruit Pigment Lip & Cheek Stain, $15. These natural, pigment rich color stains perform double duty as a lip stain and cheek blush. Shades are easy to blend and leave a beautiful, dewy sheen.

Duets
The fresh, color-coordinated shadows can be used wet or dry. The soothing, harmonious shades were inspired by the relaxing properties of tea. While I'd love to brighten my eyes up a bit with the likes of the preppy spring pink and baby leaf green Delilah, my daily dose of Macchiato creates the perfect smoky eye that's sweet enough for the daytime and rich enough for night. $22.
Realipsticks
Yet another take on the classic lipstick. Named after four Hollywood beauties, these full coverage hues are packed with the most modern ingredients and natural sun protection. Simply a lipstick with a new name. $18.

Blushbooster
A blush that boosts the color of your cheeks while nourishing the skin with antioxidants. Four powder shades that can be worn alone or layered. $22.

Smoothset

Elixrstix
My favorite of the bunch, I love the cheerful, yet not too spunky shades. While a tad bit expensive for my taste, the gloss provides gorgeous, sheer color while stimulating the senses with delicious tonics for healthy, beautiful lips. El.ix.ir's are delicious fruit and herb beverages formulated according to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine (notion of wellness and preventative care). Mmmm, it can't hurt to try , right?

It seems Feed Your Face has everything you need to capture gorgeous radiance using modern products with a wholesome twist.

Quick Tan Towelettes

Like a mini-vacation all in a little packet. Pretend you're on a tropical island, wipe on the sun with your neatly packaged towelette and come out with a natural bronzed body. They say doing it in the buff is the best way! Get your glow on, with just one towelette, your entire body can look flawlessly tanned without the harrmful effects from the sun. And yes, some bodies (like mine post-pregnancy) take ahem, two towelettes.

TanTowel Plus Self Tanning Towelette, $24.00 10 pack. These wipes have all of the same benefits as the original, TanTowel and contain these added ingredients: DHA- a self-tanning agent, Transcutol CG, a solvant for DHA penetration and Erythrulose, a color accelerator for a faster, deeper and darker natural look.

Aloha! Forget the messy self tanning creams and sprays! With one swipe of the Comodynes, Self Tanning towelettes, $15 you will see a gradual deepening in approximately two hours. Larger and thicker than most, these remind me of diaper wipes.

Already a well known beauty craze throughout Europe, Bronze-Age the Self Tanning Towels, $15 are luxuriously convenient sunless tanning towelettes. Although I have not tried these myself, many readers swear by the perfect all natural looking, sun-kissed tan in minutes. No mess guaranteed, simply wipe dress and go! Superior sunless tanning has never been easier.

One of the golden rules of self-tanning is to exfoliate thoroughly to remove dead skin cells before application. Failure to do so could result in an uneven tan that fades fast. Whoops, you goofed! If you've been there, done that, I highly recommend Modelco's Tan Remover, $14.00. This concentrated exfoliating formula consists of fine micro-salt particles that dissolve the self-tan when massaged in a circular motion into the skin. A body scrub with benefits, Tan Remover contains the nourishing extracts of vitamin e that moisturises the hands and body, leaving your skin silky smooth and hydrated. And of course, it is colored in sexy ModelCo pink!

In Memoriam Meri Kay Carpenter

I wanted to dedicate my post today to my wonderful mother-in-law, Meri Kay Carpenter. Sadly, she passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2007. As you may (or may not) know from my post on July 2 regarding Couture for Cancer, Meri was recently diagnosed with a progressive from of esophageal cancer. I want to thank everyone for all of your kind words and prayers. I'll leave you guys with a pictures of her with grandchildren, Brooklyn and Haileigh (my daughters) who were the light of her life,; and one of her favorite sayings: "We are all one winged angels, and it is only together we can fly.”

Police Rock Wrigley

Sorry for the late post today! My dH surprised me with tickets (15th row, center none-the-less) to the The Police concert last night. Billed as one of the biggest acts to hit the summer tour circuit, the newly reunited Police marked the second set of their two sold-out concerts at Wrigley Field on a beautifully warm Friday night in Chicago.

Looking down from the VIP bleaches behind the stage, lead singer Sting, looking remarkably fit at age 55. The rock star himself smiling from below, blew us a kiss before heading on stage to rock Wrigley. Sting still possess a vigorously strong voice that meshes well with Stewart Copeland's percussions and Andy Summers' rhythmic beats over the 20-song show featuring almost all their classic hits, including my top three: "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic," a reggae-infused "Don't Stand So Close To Me" and a stretched-out jam version of "Roxanne." Police fans undoubtedly were pleased by a reunion some 23 years in the making. Thanks for a great night dH, just like old times! One that I'm not sure you, me and all three members of the band will ever again get to experience.
Stay tuned for new MAC launches posting this weekend...

Yu-Be

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream, Japan's best selling medicated, vitamin-enriched skin cream for generations, is nearing its 50th birthday, and is no longer a Japanese "secret." The brand is selling out in new retail locations as consumers around the world discover why Yu-Be has been trusted by generations of Japanese families.

Indie etailer, Beautyofasite began selling Yu-Be exclusively in the US in 2004, where it has continued to generate significant sales. Yu-Be's heritage, as well as its unique and effective formula, has also made it a hit down-under. Australia's chic Mecca Cosmetica just started stocking Yu-Be. Their customers have embraced the simple concept of one skincare product, for the whole body and the entire family. Perhaps the demand for high-quality Japanese products is greatest in France, which sets the trends for Europe and internationally.

According to Matthew Graham, CMO, Yu-Be. "The initial success that Yu-Be is experiencing internationally confirms that our expansion strategy is well founded. Generations of Japanese families have used it to moisturize, heal and treat all their skin needs. Early indicators suggest that the rest of the world is eager to take advantage of what used to be Japan's soft skin secret."
Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream, $15, Japan's soft skin secret, is the number one selling, medicated, vitamin-enriched skin cream in Japan. If you get a chance, try it. The slightly medicinal scent may throw you for a loop at first, but it dissipates quickly. The ointment turned cream quickly seeps into skin, leaving nothing but soft, moisturized skin. It's perfect for summer feet since Yu-Be really soothes and heals severely dry, cracked heels.

I'll Try Anything Once

Double post today. I couldn't sleep last night after chatting with my friend Shannon who blogs for A Girl's Gotta Spa -highly recommended. Shannon has a distinguished, down-to-earth writing style and as a mom of four boys, newborn included, I'm in awe of her multi-tasking abilities.

After chatting about how many samples we receive, try once and store away (we couldn’t actually toss anything), what’s a girl to do? Yes, our friends and family revel in all the freebies, but one can only use so much. Ladies, what can we do with the samples? We’ve slathered the foundation, smeared the gloss and rubbed the bronzer, once, maybe a few times at best. Ideas anyone?

Oh, and BTW, if you missed the MAC chat with Eve and her personal makeup artist, JJ, you can check out the transcript here.

Secret Agent Sunscreens

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 90% of aging (yes 9-0!) is caused by sun damage. If you don't wear sunscreen every single day, changes in your skin can begin in your 20s. Protecting your skin while you’re out and about is a must, whether you’re hitting the beach or running errands. The easiest way, sneak it into your daily routine. Below you’ll find a list of our favorite, secret sunscreens. Beach beauties Jessica Biel and Kate Hudson are fans of the antioxidant rich B. Kamins Day Cream SPF 15, $68.00.

Face Wash

It cleanses skin and protects with SPF 15 from everyday UVA and UVB exposure in one easy step. Fresh, super fast, and it doesn’t leave a greasy residue like a traditional sunscreen. What a better way to feel protected from everyday incidental sun exposure.

Every Day Moisturizer
SPF 30 Sheer Moisturizer, $29 by Juice Beauty also hydrates skin. The chemical-free, full spectrum SPF 30 sun protection combines certified organic white grape and pomegranate juices, vitamin antioxidants, and essential nutrients to replenish and protect for optimum antiaging benefits.

Bronzer
Murad Firming Bronzer SPF 15, $48 has a shimmer to help hide imperfections and cornflower and rosemary to help tighten skin. The active firming complex actually increases skin firmness by 32% in 15 minutes.

Spray Tan
If easy application is what your after, try the Continuous Spray Sunblock, about $10 by Coppertone. Available in a wide array of SPFs ranging from Dry Oil SPF 10 all the way up to Kid's Sunblock Spray SPF 50, the constant mist gives you quick protection, and it even sprays when it’s upside down -especially handy for hard-to-reach places (and flailing children).

Lavish Lashes

Paris and Beyonce have them, and Jennifer Lopez's are made of mink. Madonna's cost over $10,000 and are studded with diamonds.

Hollywood is hip to the latest trend. But if you blink you might have miss it: eyelash extensions. Touted as the next 'big thing' in beauty, eyelash extensions started in Asia and made their way west. Unlike traditional false eyelashes that only last one day and are applied on a strip, synthetic eyelash extensions are glued to eyelash hairs one by one with tweezers. The process takes ninety minutes and they last about four to six weeks. Lovely faux lashes don't come cheap, it typically costs between $300 and $500.

Beauty salons everywhere are catching on. At Pierre Michel in New York City was one of the very first salons to offer the service as early as 2004 and was voted best eyelash extensions by New York magazine. In fact, lash extensions are so popular that appointments must be booked up to months in advance.

For those who do not want to pay the high price or wait for an appointment, a good alternative is semi-permanent lashes. They cost about $50-$75, last about 7 to 10 days and take just a few minutes to apply. And yes, both options really do look better than plain ole mascara.

Clubman-Pinaud

If your guy secretly longs to be as suave as George Clooney and who wouldn't - he's rich, famous, notoriously single and always looks like a million bucks. Now you can help him get one step closer to their 'forbidden' fantasy with Woody's Men's Grooming Products.

While filming, Leatherheads, a romantic comedy set in the 1920s in which Clooney plays a professional football team owner, Clooney's hair and makeup department called on the expertise of AII to request "the best talc in the business", Clubman-Pinaud. They also received Woody's Meat and Potatoes Bar , $16 of body soap.

This is the second time that Clubman has co-starred with Clooney; earlier this year, the production team of the film Michael Clayton used Clubman-Pinaud products to dress the set. The thriller, in which Clooney plays the title role, will be released this fall.

Get the Green Out

If you've been spending every afternoon at the neighborhood pool with your kids and your blonde 'do suddenly develops a pea green tinge ala Shrek, the chlorine's to blame.

Not only can chlorine can make hair feel dry, brittle, but it makes hair difficult to comb through; and tangles easily. So if your hair feels gummy, or has a fiberglass appearance after taking a swim, there is an easy solution. Wetting your hair completly with fresh water prior to diving in will prevent all of the above. Hair is like a sponge and if it is already saturated, it's won't be able to soak up as much of the chlorinated water.

To help ward off the green, pick up a special shampoo like Malibu 2000 Swimmers' Water Action Shampoo, $9.50. This gentle, daily shampoo is formulated with antioxidant vitamins and botanicals specifically for swimmers of all ages. Or make your own antidote. Mix two parts clarifying shampoo like, Fresh Soda Shampoo, $24 and one part window cleaner (yes, Windex type). It seems odd, but the ammonia found in many window cleansers acts like peroxide to pull the green film out of your hair. The cleanser may be slightly drying so follow up with a deep conditioner.

Bare Essentials

Forget about the plastic surgeon! Bare Essentials has just introduced a plumping lip gloss called Buxom Lips formulated to leave lips with the same shape as the Buxom girls themselves: curvaceous, voluptous and healthy.

BE's foxy ladies are infused with vitamins A & E to keep lips soft and protected. One swipe adds a glow of color with a comfortable amount of tingle and a menthol, cooling scentsation. Over time, lips become fuller and smoother, thanks to the all-natural, collagen-boosting ceramide that repairs damaged lip tissue and stimulates the production of new collagen.

I've been wearing these glosses everyday. I've tried a ton of plumping glosses- from DuWop Lip Venom to Fusion Lip Fusion to Too Faced Lip Injection, I like these the best! Your lips actually look more plump after one application. After a few days, my husband actually accused me of getting my lips 'done'. Wow, not that I haven't considered it, but my pain threshold is zero, zip, nada- plus, I'm terrified of ending up looking like Goldie.

Available in four slightly shimmering (with a hint of gold mica), neutral shades, Candi, a strawberry jam, Dolly, a dusty mauve shimmer, Amber, a washed peach and Bambi, a blushed pink. This mineral-infused polish imparts a semi-matte finish with no sticky or tacky feeling. At $18, these lascivious tubes will last forever and a day. 5 Stars for Buxom Lips!

Beauty Addicts

The folks at Beauty Addicts sent over a generous care package a few weeks ago. This is the first time I've ever used the line. I must say, I'm impressed! Look for more Beauty Addict reviews in the future. For now, I'm going to dish on one of my personal favorites.

Not to be confused with Beauty Addict, of the online mag fame, Beauty Addicts is beauty made simple. A simple approach to makeup that empowers women to choose their looks with confidence and ease, whether it's flirtatious, casual professional or downright glamorous with one of four color families: glow, express, motivate and seduce.

For those of you that regularly use Vaseline to gloss up your face, but would prefer a more professional, longer-lasting look, Glimmer Sheers are going to be your new BFF (Best Face Forward). This dynamic duo can be used to highlight and luminize the eyes, face and cheeks. Glimmer is essentially a tinted highlighter that doesn't crease, while Sheer is a crystal clear gloss that hydrates and enhances skin. Look falling-down tired? Come alive with this handy compact. Try a quick swipe of Sheer on your eyelids, using Glimmer in the corners and lightly blended under the brow bone. You'll look wide awake and ready for action.

Glimmer Sheers are available in four shades: GlowGlimmer, a violet gleam, MotivateGlimmer, a fuschia glisten, ExpressGlimmer, a golden glow, SeduceGlimmer, a silver shine. $30 at Beauty Addicts.com or by calling 1-800-711-9801.

Coola

Ready for the summer sun? Given the epidemic of skin cancer in this country, sun safety should now be an important part of our daily lives. Coola has come up with the perfect way to save face for shade worshippers everywhere.

Founded in 2002, Coola was designed to satisfy the tastses of savvy, sophiscated consumers who care as much about the environment as protecting and nourshing their skin. Crafted with care from the finest, safest and most scientifically advanced organic ingredients, Coola's entire line is sure to keep you gorgeous - no matter the weather.

We Love: Coola Face SPA 30, $30. This highly nourishing sunscreen lotion for the face defends against powerful UVA/UVB rays that cause sunburn, cell damage, and the premature signs of aging. Provides excellent hydrating benefits to fight dryness and maintain skin's optimal moisture. Formulated with organic cucumber to counteract roughness and keep skin looking soft and healthy, Coola Face absorbs quickly and leaves a sheer, sexy matte finish.

If you are heading into the summer sun. Be prepared with Coola and these great sun-safety tips from the EPA:

  • Limit Time in the Midday Sun
The sun's rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Whenever possible, limit exposure to the sun during these hours.
  • Seek Shade
Shade is a good source of protection, but keep in mind that shade structures (e.g., trees, umbrellas, canopies) do not offer complete sun protection. Remember the shadow rule: Watch Your Shadow. No Shadow, Seek Shade!
  • Wear a Hat
A hat with a wide brim offers good sun protection to your eyes, ears, face, and the back of your neck - areas particularly prone to overexposure to the sun.
  • Cover Up
Wearing tightly woven, loose-fitting, and full-length clothing is a good way to protect your skin from the sun's UV rays.
  • Wear Sunglasses that Block 99-100% of UV Radiation
Sunglasses that provide 99-100% UVA and UVB protection will greatly reduce sun exposure that can lead to cataracts and other eye damage. Check the label when buying sunglasses.
  • Always Use Sunscreen
Apply a broad spectrum sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 or higher liberally on exposed skin. Reapply every 2 hours, or after working, swimming, playing, or exercising outdoors. Even waterproof sunscreen can come off when you towel off, sweat, or spend extended periods of time in the water.

Beach Bodies

This weeks issue of Star featured 36 Best (think Jessica Biel, Cameron Diaz) & Worst (ala Kate Hudson, Kirsten Dunst) Beach Bodies made me cringe. I would hate to be a celebrity and have all my 'assets' critiqued. Seriously, I would kill to look like any one of the worst beach bod bikini ladies, Uma Thurman included.

Does summer make you want to quit your job and do lunges 24/7? Me too! Lets just say since having a baby (even though it was seven months ago) I'm not nearly back to me pre-baby weight. Blah, I hope sarongs are back big this season. I'm in need of a quick fixer upper. Together or solo, here's the low down on five flab-fighting products to get you beach body ready for summer.

Bliss, Ray of Hope gives new meaning to tan and tone. The water-resistant broad spectrum sunscreen actually helps you fight the look of fat while lying on the beach! With exclusive sun-activated spheres that release the visual slimming effect of caffeine molecules when you need them most—while baring the better part of your birthday suit in the sun—in a non-greasy spray formula of hydrating antioxidants and aloe. SPF 20. $38. Why didn't they think of this sooner?

A perennial best-seller, Bliss, Fat Girl Slim, $32 is an advanced technology fat fighter that features QuSome encapsulated caffeine molecules. This cream relieves ' thigh-anxiety' and delivers quick and targeted results that firm and tighten any 'perceived problem areas. It's the skin slimming stuff of supermodels.

Whip it good! Bliss, Stimulator, $22 is a rubber, cellulite scrubber that wakes up surface circulation, moving fat-trapping fluids out of thick thighs. Confrontational types can boldly bash blubbery areas in private.

Pure Inventions, Fit & Slender, $36. Spike water with just a dropper full of this ginger- flavored herbal fluid to reduce cravings and 'irrational ravenousness'. Ups metabolism, but for the best bang, pair with a healthy diet and exercise. Ah shucks.

Suffering from cellulite? Scared to sport a skirt, let alone a swimsuit? Don a pair of MBTs for an all-points attack on flab. Now available in a warm weather, sweat-strategic style, these shoes have gained a fanatical following among fitness buffs and cellulite-slaying moms alike. Walk, run and stand around for a better bum. Starting at $235 a pair, they are on the expensive end, but say far less expensive and way less painful that lipo. I'm pondering purchasing a pair myself. Anyone own a pair?

100% Pure

I’ve been craving to try 100% Pure. Claiming to be the most pure, the most clean, the most healthy skincare, bath & body treatments in the world how could I go wrong? I picked up the Chocolate Mocha Body Scrub, $20 and the Fresh Squeezed Tangerine Juicy Shower Gel, $14. I love the scrub, it’s just the right consistency (not too runny, not too thick) and smells decadent, like lush, dark chocolate. Complete with a generous shot of espresso, the scrub awakens the senses, increases circulation and buffs away bumps and flakes for gorgeous, radiant skin. It’s the perfect morning pick-me-up. On the other hand, I’ll take a pass on the shower gel. While the scent was intoxicating (in a good way) pure, refreshing tangerine, yet slightly sweet, I prefer lots of lather and this just didn’t make the squeeze.

Doux Me

Doux Me was created in 2002 by Caroline Wachsmuth, a passionate aromatherapist originally from Switzerland. She left Europe for South Africa where she devoted herself to the study of essential oils and massage therapies in Johannesburg. She then settled in the USA and attended a course at the Aveda Institute. Shortly thereafter, she became a teacher at the New York Aveda Institute and presented seminars on aromatherapy.
The idea of Doux Me came to her as a necessity. No existing product on the market met all of her demands for pure, natural, efficient, fresh and glamorous skin care. When she came back from France, she fulfilled her dream and created Doux Me, without compromise. Caroline Wachsmuth is now at the head of a skin care line in constant evolution which is desired by some of the most selective and innovative shops around the world.
We Love: Rose Glacee Milk Cleanser, 22L. Not only does this amazing cleanser leave our skin clean and refreshed, but wonderfully moisturized. This gentle, low-foaming, silky-soft textured cleansing milk deep cleans without irritating or upsetting the skin's delicate moisture balance. It contains a special blend of essential oils of rose geranium and rosewood that quickly and completely remove makeup and break down excess oil, dirt, and debris.

Mastiha Fantastic

There's a new premium commodity in town, and it's name is mastiha. Those of you with no ties to the Eastern Mediterranean or the Middle-East are forgiven for not knowing exactly what mastiha, or mastic gum, is. It's a product of the mastic tree, which is mainly cultivated on Chios, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. Small cuts are made in the bark of the tree, the sap seeps out and congeals into 'tears' of resin, which are harvested and cleaned by hand.

The resinous result has been popular and highly valued in the region for thousands of years, and was traded from Venice to Damascus. More than just a sticky flavouring, mastiha is cherished for its antibacterial properties, used to reduce tooth plaque and treat gastric ulcers. It was once considered so precious that countries fought for the right to control its cultivation. (The ancients were very fond of mastic chewing gum.)

Flash forward 20 centuries, and welcome to modern Greece, where the Chios Gum Mastic Growers Association started Mastihashop to stimulate demand for its produce. Mastiha is used in a wide variety of products, and Mastihashops carry everything from mastiha-flavoured coffee, biscuits and liqueur, to toothpaste, cosmetics and chewing gum. All well-branded and sleekly packaged.

There are currently seven Mastihashops in Greece. But the cooperative-formed retailer has its eye on international expansion: both in the Middle-East, where mastiha is a familiar ingredient, and in the west, where the fragrant and exotic product has yet to catch on. Unlike olive oil or sea salt, Mastiha's hand-made and uber-local character ensure a lasting degree of exclusivity. The medicinal properties and nice branding can't hurt, either. Time to enquire about distribution and franchising?

Beautiful Vending

Born out of frustration from hearing their female friends complaining of frizzy hair, entreprenuers Richard Starrett and Neil Macka took it upon themselves to devise a solution. They came up with the Straight Up machine.

Trading under the name Beautiful Vending Ltd, the two men realized there was a gap in the market, since English weather can turn perfectly styled hair to frizz, ruining a night out for women fixed on having pin-straight hair. It took them a year of research to develop the Straight Up, a patended vending machine that lets women purchase short use of a ceramic straightening iron. The vending machines use professional-grade GHD tongs, "the irons that styled a thousand catwalks", and 90 seconds' use goes for one pound (approx USD 1.85/EUR 1.50).

Offering style-conscious females the opportunity to look their best at all times -– regardless of unpredictable weather -- this is a simple business idea with low start-up costs and serious potential. The business is currently run solely in the United Kingdom, where 500 units have been placed so far, but Beautiful Vending is seeking to grow quickly and franchise opportunities are available worldwide. Press hype regarding the product has been huge in the UK, garnering much interest from club and bar owners. Straight Up machines will of course be a hit anywhere women preen and primp: restaurants, gyms, shopping malls, office buildings.

Beer for Women

It seems an international race is on to get women to drink more beer. Following our previous coverage of Karla, a German beer for women by Karlsberg marketed as improving health and well-being, comes a related spotting from Poland. Karmi, a regional brand produced by the Polish division of Carlsberg, is a dark beer that has been around for a while, and is characterized by its sweet caramel flavour.

Categorized as a near-beer for its low alcohol content (0.1%), the drink has been revamped and is now being targeted to women. Besides pretty new packaging, Karmi has also introduced three new flavours: Poema di Caffé (coffee), Selua (pineapple/piña colada) and Lamai (guava, dragonfruit and mint). Unlike its German sister Karla, Karmi isn't touted as having medicinal properties. Karmi's positioning is all about flavor, low alcohol content and packaging. Although we can't personally vouch for its taste, the coffee flavoured beer is stealing the show, and was singled out by Polish business magazine Handel as Poland's best new FMCG product of 2006.

Biggs & Featherbelle

Started in 2003 by sisters Kasey and Kelly Evick, Biggs & Featherbelle offers an array of deliciously scented, synthetic-free bar soaps, lip balms, bath soaks, belly balm and body butter bars. Although the quirky packaging first caught my eye, it was the addictive scents, courtesy of essential oils that captivated me.

The sisters found inspiration early on by making melt and pour glycerin soaps as Christmas presents. They had so much fun creating recipes and developing packaging, the idea swiftly spun into a retail adventure. A true family affair, their mother, Pam, runs the production center while their Aunt Debbie helps out wherever needed, especially with stamping the packaging.

Our favorites: the ten amusing
soap designs, $4.49 range from the wholesome Granola Bar, a healthy scrub for all skin types which includes Oatmeal, Peanut Oil, Wheatgerm Oil and Honey to the fresh-faced Handle Bar, a clarifying soap which includes Hazelnut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Neem Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Lavender and Beta Carotene. We hard a hard time choosing, but The Mini Bar, $21.99, a collection of eight half size bars that come nestled in a hand painted box satisfied all our cravings.

Biggs & Featherbelle also promotes a line of reasonably priced
customized favors. Lil’ Bag, for any occasion includes a mini soap in a hand stamped kraft bag in your choice of colors, $2.99. The super-cute Mini Box, $6.99 comes stocked with a mini soap and lip balm in a hand stamped kraft box. The piece de résistance, Bigg Box, $15.99 is a stash of soap, lip balm and a massage bar. The next time you host an event (think baby shower, wedding shower, and bachlorette party) and need a little inspiration head on over to Biggs & Featherbelle.

Available in 34 (yes, thirty-four) out of the ordinary flavors ranging from Indian Curry, Tropical Pineapple and Rose to Green Tea, Bitter Chocolate and Fresh Yogurt. With so many options, it's hard to choose just one tube, $4.50. We suggest the Toothpaste Kit, a set of five complimentary flavors. Our favorite: Sweet Tooth, $22, which includes Bitter Chocolate, Caramel, L'Espresso, Vanilla and Pumpkin Pudding. Best sellers include: White Peach, Cinnamon and Cola, but don’t take our word for it. The numbers alone confirm the buzz, over 13 million units were sold in Japan the first year alone.

Hint

It's not easy to chill a ten year, six-pack a day addiction to Diet Coke. However when my body is thoroughly exhausted, it's 2 am and I still can't seem to fall asleep it's time to find an alternative. In my pursuit for something refreshing, yet healthy = no sweeteners, calories or carbs, I discovered Hint.

Leave it to a woman to design a spectacular product and great packaging to boot- making it easier for all of us to get the recommended eight glasses a day. Hint water is the brainchild of Kara Goldin, CEO and founder. The idea behind Hint, $1.50 is simple: pure water, nature's original refreshment, accented with a hint of natural flavor. No sugar, no artificial sweeteners, Hint is a refreshing alternative to sodas, juice and other sweetened drinks and it tastes great! Our favorites: Apple and Peppermint.

Bond No. 9

LA just may be the land of the beautiful and the best smelling as far as I’m concerned. In town for a little business, but mostly pleasure -a wedding, I had some free time to shop between the rehersal dinner on Friday and the big event on Saturday night.

First stop, the famed Apothia at Fred Segal. Tucked inside this boutique within a boutique are cult favorites like DuWop Lip Venom, Child Perfume and ooddles of shades by celebrity makeup artists Paula Dorf, Carol Shaw (Lorac) and Susan Posnick. Scoping out the fragrances, I stumbled upon Bond No. 9. I can’t say enough about this wonderful line. It’s what I call magic in a bottle. All of the fragrances are so unique and beautiful, it’s almost impossible to choose. I purchased a new favorite, Fire Island, $178.

Named after the island hideaway, that's just 90 minutes from Manhattan by train and ferry, the scent is reminiscent of freshly bathed skin, doused with premium European sunscreen then warmed up by a midday siesta on the beach. The luminous golden-yellow bottle contains top notes of cardamom, ozone, middle notes of neroli and white musk and bottom notes of skin musk, tuberose, and patchouli. The packaging has a signature token surrounded by a vibrant sunburst, a perfect reminder for those of us that don’t want the summer to fade away.

Open Sundaes

Open Sundaes, which launched on Valentines Day in 2005, is a delicious collection of sweet-inspired skin, bath and body products. Decadent scents such as Bon Bon, Buttercream, Angel Food Cake, Peach Bellini, Chocolate Covered Cherry, Roasted Marshmallow and Rhubarb Pie delight the skin as well as the senses.

Products include Cupcakes for Bubble Baths, Soak & Melt Cakes for body conditioning in the bath, Bath Bombs,
Bon Bon Melts, Butter Bath Frappes and Body Butters. The Bakery Bath Treats collection offers yummy bath and body treats with scents that are updated seasonally.

Started by former model, Mashiah Vaughn, Open Sundaes products are beautifully wrapped in unique, dazzling and sophisticated gift boxes. As well, Open Sundaes has a personalized gift concierge service and will hand deliver gifts (Canada only). It’s not surprising the store now has two flagship locations and several retailers scatted throughout Canada. Bathing bliss can also be found at the Sutton Place Hotel, which presents Open Sundaes products as an added feature to its 30 premium floor rooms. If you are bath and body junkie and find yourself in the Vancouver area, you now know where to rest your weary head.

Critics Choice:
Cupcake Bubble Bath, $8.10 ca. Each of the nine cupcakes looks incredibly realistic- complete with a colorful whipped topping -some have sprinkles too. When dropped in the tub, the solid bubble bath produces huge and long lasting bubbles. They are big enough to break in half, even if you have a large soaking tub. We love Mint Condition, a refreshing blend of peppermint and spearmint. It was wonderfully exhilarating and cooling on a hot summer night.

Critics Choice:
Soak n Melt Bath Dessert, $7.20 ca. No bubbles here, but these super cute designs and spectacular scents provide a luxurious bathing experience enhanced with rich cocoa butter leaving your skin soft and sweet. We tried the Nanimo; so realistic the blend of sugar, coconut, cocoa and chopped almonds, we had to resist the urge to lick our arm all night.

Look for upcoming reviews of the Bon Bon Melts, Triple Chocolate Dessert Candle and Sugar Shimmer Body Glow in Vanilla Coconut.

Fresh Body Market

History reveals the stunning Cleopatra bathed in milk daily. And although I love to try a new beauty tip as much as the next girl, I’ve never been overly exciting about soaking in a tub chock-full of sour milk. Let’s face it, she didn’t exactly have the variety that exists today: fizzing powders, exploding bombs and bubbling brews. With so many choices out there, who wants to settle for same old? Not I, but the folks over at Fresh Body Market have swayed my opinion with Foaming Milk Bath.

Think wholesome goodness meets pampering richness. The creamy concocotions are packaged in real mini milk jugs; and now comes in three flavors: Coconut Milk, Chocolate and Strawberry. Enriched with pure organic cocoa, I splurged on
Chocolate Milk Bath, $18, 32oz. As I sank into a tub full of rich, long lasting chocolate bubbles, I instantly felt the stress begin to melt away. Stepping out, my skin felt soft and silky smooth. So maybe Cleopatra really did have it going on after all…
Critic's Choice: Coco Banana Slush, $18, 11.5oz. This lushly lathering bath soap contains fresh bananas and real, shredded coconut. Bananas contain high levels of potassium, and vitamins A & B to moisturize and condition the skin. Beneath the rich, foaming lather lies shredded organic coconut to exfoliate and condition the skin while surrounding your body in smoothness. The soothing scents of coconut, pineapple and banana take you away to a tropical island in your shower.

Super Quick Fix

Although we love all things girly and can spend hours gushing over stacks of skincare and mountains of makeup, who has the time? I love a quick fix and I’m betting a lot of you out there follow the same hectic schedule. I’ve a two year old toddler in tow, another on the way and a to-do list as long as my left arm. Chronically ten minutes behind schedule, these quick fixes are sure to free up some precious time and get you out the door in five minutes flat...

1. I love to entire time-saving Comodynes range, but my favorite is the Beauty Flash Radiant Effect, $13 for 3 count. A shock treatment for improving tone and smoothing features in record time. When applied before make-up, it clears signs of tiredness and provides smooth and bright skin within 1 minute.

2. Fake a perfect complexion with Urban Apothecary,
Mineral Sheer Tint, $38. This sheer, lightweight moisturizer contains a protective SPF 20 sunscreen and a hint of color for a natural finish with a healthy glow. Fingertip application is a cinch and the coverage is long lasting, leaving you with a perfect finish every time minus the full morning routine.

3. Urban Apothecary, Mineral Sheer Radiance, $32 is embedded with micro-prisms that refract light away from wrinkles, dark spots and other imperfections, this powder takes your skin from ‘looks like you pulled an all-nighter’ to glowing and well-rested in ten seconds flat. Using a fluffy or Kabuki brush, sweep this compact over your t-zone to go from blah to ahhh!

4. Smashbox, Limitless Lip Stain, $22. A pigmented lip stain on one end and a clear gloss on the other, just apply and forget. The stain gives you flushed lips and stains put all day. Three flattering shades to choose from: 7, raspberry pink, Infinity, cherry red and Non-Stop, a burnished rose that looks great on just about everyone.

5. I’ve honestly tried every mascara under the sun. I really like Kiss Me Mascara, $24. It stays put, doesn’t run and looks great all day--- but be prepared to purchase a new tube every other month. I’ve found the formula starts to ‘tube-off’ alone after regular repeated use. It’s annoying, so I switch back and forth with Longcils, Ultra, $32. The black cream mascara is a volumizing formula for dramatic and glamorous eyes. It’s also water-resistant all day long.

Product

On a recent swap I received a full-size jar of Product Butter Scrub, $38. I've been yearning to try the line for quite some time so it was a well-anticipated item.

Complete with a bold, graphic yellow,
Product label, I knew I was hoping for quite a treat. After waiting all day to sink into the wide mouth jar, the luscious blend of buttery wet cane sugar and cocoa butter, drizzled in fresh macadamia nut and almond oil was calling my exhausted and dreary skins name. Although the texture leans more toward the grainy, sugared side, it provided a sweet experience with light exfoliation and slightly polished moisturizing. The Body Butter Scrub is fragrance free, but smells slightly of sweetened milk chocolate due to the natural ingredients.

I wanted to find this product irresistible, but it didn’t quite fit the “your life will never be the same once you're a Product Junkie” build. And while I like it, I just don't *love* it. For now, I’ll stick with my current scrub-a-dub favorites from: Lather,
Dutch Mocha Body Buff, $18 and Bliss, Steep Clean Self-Heating Body Polish, $42.

Bliss Steep Clean

Those of us with oily skin may have a tough time when summer arrives. Between sunscreen and sweat, breakouts are almost inevitable. And although fall is just around the corner, it’s still sunny and a balmy eighty degrees here in Chicago. I needed a fast fix since my usual, but hard-to-find Lierac Regulance went dry and the weatherman is predicting a weeks worth of high temperatures. At Nordstrom over the weekend, I noticed a new product amongst the ever-popular Deep Steep line by Bliss. Faster than you can say ‘sebum-seeking smartsponge technology’, I headed home with my new purchase: Steep Clean Moisture Lotion, 17.oz, $48.00.

The uplifting and super-clean scented, light lotion goes on smoothly but doesn’t feel greasy. It’s formulated with glycolic acid and lactic acid to help control shine in oily skin types and correct minor imperfections. After using it for only a few days, not only did I notice that it actually absorbed surface oil and banished the occasional breakout, but my skin looked more even, had better tone and felt smoother to the touch. It even manages to moisturize marvelously without an ounce of oil.

Wax Works

Clear brow gels have a tendency to leave artful arches crunchy or unnaturally shiny. For softer hold, try a grooming kit that contains wax. Urban Apothecary's version, Just Brow-sing, $25 comes with two shades of powder so you can custom blend your color. The wax in Anastasia’s Brow Ex-press, $38 contains shea butter and vitamin E to condition as it shapes. Wax plumps up individual hairs so brows look lush, not stiff. You should always apply the wax first since it gives the color something to stick to.

N-Fruizon

Cranberry oil has long been touted as a superior anti-aging ingredient and thanks to N-Fruizon, your hair can now reap the benefits of this wonder berry. N-Fruizon is a complete hair care range bottled with 100% pure cold-pressed cranberry oil and botanical extracts.

The entire N-Fruizion line features a proprietary delivery system that provides cellular protection while delivering active fruit oil ingredients to you hair and skin. It continues to deliver Vitamin E, Fruit Oils and Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids throughout the day for continual cellular nourishment. The bottom line? Fans report stronger, shiny hair that receives a ton of compliments.
Critic's Choice: Due to our perennial summertime wish for smooth, silky hair -forget the humidity, the flat-iron has been perpetually plugged in. This combined with sun, surf and a drizzle of chlorine has left our hair a tangled mess. One squirt of the 3-in-1 Styling Crème is formulated to relax, eliminate frizz, smooth hair all while adding incredible shine. It’s our stand-out favorite in the line and at seven dollars a pop, it’ seems almost too good to be true.

Jaqua

The girls over at Jaqua have the cutest packaging! I also love the fact that the line is readily available -from Ulta to my favorite department store, Nordstrom as well as a plethora of beauty boutiques so I don’t necessarily have to order online. A recent shop-stop at the website turned up a load of new products.

It wasn’t surprising to find one of my favorite aromas, Buttercream had exploded into a full range with the introduction of lip glosses, shimmer puff, body mist, bar soap and a candle. I added a few to my cart – reviews to follow and continued on. Next stop: Pink Champagne.

The pink bubbly blend looks like it’s almost enough to make a girl tipsy. After sampling the new
Pink Champagne fall collection, Christina Aguilera requested the Shower Syrup, $18, 8oz, Luscious Lotion, $16, 4oz and the Body Butter, $22, 6oz. We agree, the delightfully soft and floral scent has us swooning champagne wishes, Cheers.

Critic's Choice: The

Lip Balm Addicts

The majority of women I know are obsessed with glosses, but me, I have a lust for lip balm. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good gloss, but when I come across a new lippie, I instantly have to add it to my collection. My stock-pile includes over a hundred different tubes of lube. The ever-popular favorites dot my assortment: Burt’s Bee Beeswax Lip Balm, $2.50, Weleda Everon Lip Balm, $5.00, Bloom Aromatherapy Lip Balm, $8 and the coveted La Mer The Lip Balm, $45. Yet my true blue favs are the ever hard-to-find indie brands. A quick click over to Kiss Fix (formerly lipmedic.com) can always get my lips a smacking. I’ll be reviewing my all time favorites in upcoming posts, starting today with Lip Ganache.

Known as Dessert for Your Lips, the
Lip Ganache lineup is comprised of all natural gourmet lip balms. The entire range contains high quality ingredients such as shea butter, vitamin e, rosemary extract and apricot kernel oil in generous proportions. But what makes the product line really unique is that it contains real chocolate, and not just any chocolate, but Scharffen Berger chocolate. Scharffen Berger is an award-winning high-end chocolate maker that caters to gourmet cooks and professional chefs.

The texture of the product is light, buttery and emollient. "I wanted to make a lip balm that was protective but not waxy like the other brands," said Ganache creator and owner Patricia West. "I think what we have here is something really luscious and decadent, really more of a lip conditioner."

Smooth and creamy like the real thing. But unlike the real thing, it stays on your lips and not the hips. Chocolate enthusiasts will have a hard time selecting just one flavor: Chocolate Hazelnut, Chocolate Marzipan, Chocolate Mint, Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate Orange and Chocolate Raspberry. My momma always said, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.", but at $4 bucks a pop, it’s easy to indulge and try them all. Lemon Mousse, Mocha Latte and Vanilla Mousse complete the savory collection. So run, Forrest, run and get me some
Lip Ganache.
